Biography:


Dr. Shahid Bashir is Head of Department at University Institute of Diet and Nutritional Science, Faculty of Allied Health Science, the University of Lahore. He earned his PhD in Food Technology from University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) in the area of Nutrition and Food Safety. During his PhD degree program, his thesis title was “Characterization and utilization of spirulina for food applications”. He has been awarded with scholarships during his studentship like Higher Education Commission (HEC) Indigenous Scholarship and IRSIP (International Research Support Initiative Program) at Cornell University USA during his PhD. He has published more than 20 research papers in esteemed peer reviewed National & International Journals and presented papers in more than 20 National & International Conferences, Workshops and Seminars. He is member of Pakistan Society of Food Scientist and Technologists. He is HEC approved supervisor. He has worked on Super Critical Fluid Extrusion and fortification of food especially spirulina (algae), rice, soya for extruded products. His current research interest is on food fortification, protein-calorie malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and metabolic disorders like hypercholesterolemia, hyperglycemia, elevated blood pressure and diabetes.
